The Lenten Season
"The traditional purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer — through prayer, penitence, almsgiving and self-denial — for the annual commemoration during Holy Week of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, which recalls the events linked to the Passion of Christ and culminates in Easter, the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ."
Whew, that is a long description, but did you catch the part about preparation of the believer? What are we preparing? It is really a simple answer and that is ourselves. As we look at our lives it is easy to slip into bad habits, bad talk and bad ways of sharing the Gospel. If we look at our Lord, he spent 40 days in preparation for his earthly ministry.
How more so should we prepare for our ministries? You do not have to be the leader of a church, teach a class or be on the board to have an integral ministry at your church. God provides each one of us with something to do and together we can build our family of God stronger and healthier.
40 days is not a long time, but it can be a special time between you and God. Let 2010 be the year to see what that is.
Blessings to you,
